**Current State

AI in healthcare has crossed the threshold from experimental curiosity to clinical reality. By early 2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has authorized over 1,000 AI- and machine learning-enabled medical devices, with the pace of approvals accelerating each year --- more than 200 new clearances in 2025 alone.
